About this guide

Most of what is written about Itacaré online was written by someone who spent five days here, once, several years ago. This is the other kind of guide.

Written from here

This guide is put together in Itacaré, not from a desk somewhere else. The people behind it live in town, walk these trails more than once a season and eat on this street. When something here says a trail is clay in April or that a barraca closes early out of season, it is because someone went and looked.

You will not find a personality on these pages, and that is deliberate. What matters is not who wrote a sentence but whether anyone stood in front of the thing it describes, and on what day. So the byline is the publication, and the accountability sits next to each fact instead, as a date.

How a place gets on this site

Someone goes there. We photograph it ourselves, write the description from that visit, and record the date. Until that happens the page still exists, because knowing a place is there and how to reach it is worth something, but it says plainly that nobody has been yet. Most of the directory is in that state today, and it says so on every page.

When a price or an opening time changes, the date on the page changes with it. If a date looks old to you, it is old, and you should treat the number with suspicion. That is exactly why we show it. A figure with no date next to it is general knowledge rather than something we measured, and it is written to read that way.

For places in Itacaré

A listing here is a page, not a banner: your own photographs, the practical details, a pin on the map and a direct WhatsApp button. Every contact runs through our own link, so once a month we can tell you how many people we sent you and which page they came from.

What we earn money from

Listings, and some links to booking sites that earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Paid placement is labelled as paid placement, every time, and it never changes what a page says about a place.

Corrections

Prices move, barracas close, trails wash out. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will go and look. A correction is worth more to us than a compliment.

Photography

Our own photographs are being shot. Until they are here, these pictures of Itacaré are used with thanks to the people who took them.

Independent, written in Itacaré. Paid listings and commission links are labelled as such.
