Areas
Where things are
Itacaré is small enough to walk and spread out enough that it matters where you sleep. This is the town broken into the pieces people actually talk about.

Map of the areas of Itacaré
In town
Walkable from the centre, and where almost everybody stays
CentroThe old town and Rua Pedro Longo, where most of the pousadas, restaurants and agencies are, and where the town goes out at night.PontalAcross the river mouth from town, where the Rio de Contas meets the sea. Boats, mangrove and the view back at Itacaré.CoraisA surf break rather than a beach, just past the lighthouse jetty that shelters Concha. Long tubes over sharp rock, and advanced surfers only.Boca da BarraA right hander at the river mouth south of Pontal that can run one to two kilometres on a big winter swell. One of the longest rideable waves in Brazil.Praia da CoroinhaThe beach right at the town, by the harbour and the river mouth. Not for swimming so much as for being where the town meets the water.Praia da ConchaA sheltered bay a short walk from the centre. Calm water, a row of barracas, and the quieter side of town to sleep on.Praia do ResendeThe first of the open beaches south of town, a short walk past the point, backed by coconut palms.Praia da TiriricaThe surf beach and the town's evening ritual. Short, fast, hollow waves in walking distance of the centre, busy all day and busier at sunset.Praia da CostaA small beach along the walk south, between Tiririca and Ribeira, easy to pass without noticing.Praia do RibeiraThe last of the beaches you can walk to, quieter than the rest, with the headland behind it and rock in the shallows.
Down the coast road
Dropped on the BA-001, then a walk through forest to the sand
PrainhaThe first beach past the walkable ones, reached on a path around the headland. Small, rocky at the edges, and a proper break from the town.Praia do SiriacoA quiet stretch on the walk south, between the town beaches and the trail beaches proper.Praia de São JoséSouth of the town beaches, quieter again, and the point where the coast starts to feel undeveloped.Praia de JeribucaçuA river running out across the sand, forest on both sides, and a walk in that keeps most people away. One of the ones people remember.Praia da EngenhocaItacaré's longboard wave and the first of the famous trail beaches. Off the coast road, then down through forest to the sand.Praia do HavaizinhoRock, pools and clear water, next along from Engenhoca. The one people photograph on the four beach walk.Praia da CamboinhaBetween Havaizinho and Itacarezinho on the long walk south, and usually the emptiest of the four.Praia de ItacarezinhoThe long one. Wide, open, backed by forest, and the beach most worth giving a whole day to.
