Boca da Barra sits south of Pontal where the river meets the sea. On the right day a right hander peels in from open water all the way into Pontal beach, and on a big winter swell it can run one to two kilometres, which puts it among the longest rideable waves in Brazil.
It is reachable with a short paddle from Praia da Concha, which makes it sound more accessible than it is. Out in open water orientation is difficult and cross currents pull you off the peak. Strictly for advanced surfers, and not somewhere to go alone.
The season and the rest of the breaks are in surfing in Itacaré.
Places appear here once we have been and checked them. That takes a visit, so this list grows slowly on purpose.
