Praia da Tiririca

The surf beach and the town's evening ritual. Short, fast, hollow waves in walking distance of the centre, busy all day and busier at sunset.

Tiririca is the beach Itacaré is known for and the reason a lot of people are here at all. It gives short, fast, hollow waves almost year round and draws surfers from first light, and because you can walk to it from the centre it is the busiest wave on this coast. Cross currents drag towards the rocks on either side, and once it is overhead it is a wave for experienced surfers only.

It is also the town's evening. People who do not surf come down for sunset anyway, and the crowd on the sand at six is the most reliable social event in Itacaré. If you want to understand the rhythm of the place in one hour, that is the hour.

For which break suits which level, and when the swell actually runs, see surfing in Itacaré.

Places appear here once we have been and checked them. That takes a visit, so this list grows slowly on purpose.
