Praia da Engenhoca

Itacaré's longboard wave and the first of the famous trail beaches. Off the coast road, then down through forest to the sand.

Engenhoca is the longboard wave here. It peels long and mellow inside a half enclosed bay, with a channel on the left that stays clean even at double overhead, and there are far fewer people on it than in town. It is at its best in summer, when the bay is sheltered from the northeast wind. You get dropped on the BA-001 and walk down through forest from there.

It is also simply a good beach without a board: wide, backed by forest rather than buildings, and quiet enough outside the holidays that you will lose sight of whoever you came with.

It is usually walked together with Havaizinho and Camboinha as one long day, which is described in the beaches guide.
